The lemon houses

A historical and cultural heritage of the area

The "lemon houses" of Lake Garda represent a unique and fascinating aspect of agriculture in the region. Thanks to the mitigating microclimate and exposure to the sun, the lemons can grow optimally inside the lemon groves, protected from the rigours of winter and benefiting from the light and heat necessary for their development.

The lemon groves represent a historical and cultural heritage of the Lake Garda area, which is why we take care of them and offer guided tours to appreciate the quality of our hard work.

Recovery of the historic lemon groves of Garda

Citrus growing on Garda Bresciano has been an important commercial activity presumably starting from the 13th century. It was carried out through the construction of imposing buildings, the lemon houses, structured in such a way as to be covered in the cold months to form a sort of greenhouse and with a south-east orientation to guarantee excellent insolation. After the second half of the 19th century, this activity was gradually abandoned following adverse historical and climatic events.

Today, persevering with our objectives of enhancing and protecting the local traditional agricultural heritage, we also take care of the management and recovery of some lemon houses in the area through the marketing of citrus-based products and the implementation of sustainable forms of tourist reception. The lemon houses managed by the Latteria Turnaria are the organic lemon house and eco-museum Pra dela Fam (easily reachable from the SS 45 bis), with a productive and informative function, and some lemon houses present near the hamlet of Piovere, with an accommodation and productive function.

How our products originate

Harvesting by hand and craftsmanship in processing

Everything we produce comes from the lemon houses we manage and recover, with the aim of guaranteeing a continuum with our ancient tradition. We produce the citrus fruits necessary for the preparation of marmalades, syrups and other delicious sweets made in the innovative laboratory installed at the company headquarters. This, through the use of low temperature technologies, allows us to obtain products of exceptional quality, from the point of organoleptic and nutritional view (L.I.P.A.G project). With citrus fruits we also produce the highly prized lemon and orange citrus oils, perfect for giving an extra edge to meat, fish and vegetable dishes.

The production of these products requires time, patience and dedication, but the final result amply repays the effort. Each product is a gustatory work of art, which embodies the authentic flavours of citrus fruits that are from Tignale.
